TRAUMA ART……CREATING A PATH TO HEALING……WITHOUT WORDS….Sherri’s Original Art

Trauma often lives deeper than language.

You may understand what happened intellectually, yet still feel the pain in your body, emotions, relationships, and spiritual life. You may struggle to explain what you feel—or find that speaking about certain experiences is overwhelming.

Trauma-informed art offers another way to begin.

Through color, texture, imagery, movement, and the creative process, you are given a safe and compassionate space to express what may be difficult to put into words. You do not need to be an artist. There is no pressure to create something beautiful or perfect.

The purpose is not artistic performance.

The purpose is healing, connection, and compassionate curiosity.

What Is Trauma-Informed Art?

Trauma-informed art uses simple creative practices to help individuals explore their internal experiences in a way that honors emotional safety, personal choice, and individual pacing.

At Daughter By Design, we like to incorporate art into trauma-informed spiritual formation counseling as a gentle tool for reflection and healing.

Creative practices may include:

  • Painting or drawing emotions
  • Creating visual prayers
  • Working with clay, fabric, collage, or natural materials
  • Making symbolic representations of grief, loss, safety, hope, or transformation
  • Creating images of the false self and true self
  • Designing visual reminders of truth
  • Creating with broken or discarded materials as a picture of redemption
  • Using Scripture, prayer, and art together
