Jay Stringer’s Unwanted Small‑Group Experience (also called The Journey Course or Unwanted Journey) is a structured, story‑driven group process based on his book Unwanted: How Sexual Brokenness Reveals Our Way to Healing.
⸻
What it is
• A 13-week small group (men’s, women’s, coed or mixed) led by Sherri
• Weekly 2‑hour sessions via Zoom or in‑person, supplemented with individual work and optional one‑on‑one coaching
• Participants use the Unwanted book, digital workbook and the 16‑episode Journey video series
⸻
Core Structure
1. Explore your personal sexual story
Dive into past experiences, family patterns, trauma, shame, and unmet needs
2. Uncover behavior drivers
Reflect on triggers, coping mechanisms, beliefs of unworthiness, broken relationships, and boundary issues
3. Shift shame to curiosity
Replace judgment with self‑compassion and curiosity—what Stringer calls “invitation instead of denial”
4. Find freedom through story
Identify the true motivations of unwanted behaviors and begin writing a more whole, identity‑affirming narrative
5. Community and accountability
Group sharing, guided reflection, accountability partnerships, plus optional coaching to reinforce growth .
⸻
Intended Outcomes
• Understand “How did I get here? Why do I stay? How do I get out?”
• Transform shame into self‑understanding
• Replace reactive patterns with purposeful living (“freedom for” instead of “freedom from”)
• Build a supportive community where vulnerability is valued and healing happens
